Our Assam is a black tea from the Khongea estate in India. This tea has a rich and malty character. A great choice if you like your tea strong.
GRADE
The tea is graded Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe (TGFOP) which means that there is a high content of the young, golden tips or buds. Tips are particularly rich in the substances that create the aroma, taste and flavour of the tea. This tea is harvested in May and June during the Second Flush (or harvest) period.
ORIGIN
The Khongea estate is located in the state of Assam in North-Eastern India. The estate is situated on a plateau approximately 300 ft above sea level on the south bank of the Brahmaputra river in the upper reaches of Assam. Although established in the late nineteenth century by two English tea planting ladies, Khongea has been owned by the Prakash family for over fifty years. For forty of these years Mr G N Singh has been a manager at the estate and his passion for his tea bushes is one of the reasons Khongea produces such a high quality tea.
THE EXPERIENCE
The long wiry leaves and chunky golden tips of this tea make a warm golden liquor. The infused leaves are a deep brown to coppery red. The tea has a invigorating, and malty aroma with a spicy, full bodied and robust taste. An ideal breakfast tea, it can be served with milk if desired.
